Among the largest artificial lakes India has, Rajsamand Lake was built by Maharana Raj Singh of the 17th century. The lake is a beautiful spot to rest your legs, take pictures and know its clear, pristine waters and marble embankments. In addition, the lake is full of carvings and inscriptions, and images of Hindu deities, which make it a very important historical landmark. The most beautiful thing to see here is a sunset falling on the lake, an experience that is not to be forgotten.

Kumbhalgarh Fort is one of Rajasthan’s strongest fort some distance from Rajsamand on a short drive, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Famous for its miles of massive walls that span some 36 kilometres, the fort is second only to the Great Wall of China. Read about the history and grandeur of Makarana within the fort complex and you’ll run into palaces, temples and grand gates that belonged to Mewar dynasty. The fort gives panoramic views of the Aravalli ranges and surrounding forests, so it’s a must visit destination for history buffs as well as nature lovers.

Haldi Ghati, a historical mountain pass near Rajsamand, is famed for the famous Battle of Haldi Ghati between Maharana Pratap and Mughal forces. Its name comes from the use of the yellowish colour of the soil that is so much like turmeric (haldi). Museum of the site has artifacts from the battle, statues of Maharana Pratap and his loyal horse, Chetak. It is a very pride place for Rajasthani pride and heritage and a visit here represents the bravery and valor of Maharana Pratap.

The Dwarkadhish Temple is a Hindu temple situated in nearby town Kankroli dedicated to Lord Krishna. The temple has a stunning architecture and a spiritual importance, it is an important pilgrimage site and elders visit the temple from all over Rajasthan. The temple is a temple of serenity and devotion in beautiful architecture; it will be ideal for those who want to experience all of Rajasthan’s spiritual heritage.

The shrine of Lord Vishnu at Garhbor village near Rajsamand is situated on the bank of Ghora river. The temple has a good architecture, with intricate carvings and sculptures that are carried forward for several centuries. It is very religious, thousands of devotees visited it in special festivals. Being some where serene in the Aravalihills and temple’s rich history contribution, makes for a great place to leave in peace and spirituality.

The memorial is named Chetak Smarak in memory of the loyal horse from Maharana Pratap whose contribution in the Battle of Haldi Ghati is very important. According to legend, in battle Chetak was injured but then rushed Maharana Pratap to safety and collapsed and then latter on Chetak was crowned with the wreath. The beautiful memorial to this heroic animal is situated amid beautiful surroundings, with the statues of Chetak and Maharana Pratap. But it’s a site that touches on the bond between warrior and his loyal companion.

An interesting site with lesser known is Gujarat Ka Chattri, a historic chhatri (cenotaph) with super Rajasthani architecture. It is decorated with wonderful carvings, and gives us a feel for their craftsmanship. Relatively peaceful, the site gives you a view of the traditional architectural style of Rajsamand.
